Isolation By Bex-Chan

Set after the events of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Isolation places Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy together at Hogwarts under extraordinary circumstances. Harry and Ron have left to search for Horcruxes, while Hermione remains at Hogwarts to help the Order prepare the school for the remaining students. Draco, meanwhile, is kept at Hogwarts under Snape’s orders for his own protection.

The problem is that Draco cannot leave the room assigned to him—and that room belongs to Hermione. Because Hermione is the only student trusted with the secret, the two are forced to share a confined living space while the wizarding war continues outside. Draco, accustomed to isolation and deeply hostile toward Hermione, initially sees his situation as intolerable. Hermione is equally unwilling to accept him as anything other than an enemy.

Their enforced proximity gradually changes the dynamic between them. Arguments, boredom, resentment and repeated clashes give way to reluctant familiarity. Hermione begins to challenge Draco’s prejudices and assumptions about Muggle-borns, while Draco is forced to confront beliefs that have shaped his identity since childhood. The romance develops slowly rather than immediately, with the confinement providing the circumstances in which both characters are forced to see one another differently.

The story combines forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers romance, wartime tension, emotional isolation and character redemption. Although the relationship is central, the larger Harry Potter war remains an important part of the narrative, and the story eventually intersects with major events from the final part of the original series. The work is explicitly tagged for angst, swearing, smut and character death.
