Manacled Volume 1: Caged

Manacled is a dark alternate-universe story set in a world where Voldemort has won the wizarding war. Harry Potter is dead, the Order of the Phoenix has been defeated, and Britain is controlled by a brutal magical regime. To strengthen the surviving magical population, Voldemort introduces a forced repopulation program, placing women captured by the regime into a system of reproductive servitude.

Volume 1, Caged, introduces Hermione Granger as one of those prisoners. Hermione possesses a secret connected to the defeated Order, but the information has been concealed within her own damaged memories. She is therefore placed under the control of the regime and sent to the High Reeve, Draco Malfoy, whose position gives him considerable authority over her fate.

The central conflict is consequently not simply Hermione’s struggle against imprisonment. She must survive a system designed to strip her of autonomy while attempting to understand what has happened to her memories and why the authorities are so interested in what she may unknowingly possess. Her relationship with Draco develops within this atmosphere of captivity, coercion, suspicion, and political violence rather than under conventional romantic circumstances.

The volume establishes the story’s defining themes: war, resistance, memory, bodily autonomy, sacrifice, trauma, morality, and survival. Its tone is deliberately bleak and psychologically intense, drawing on dystopian fiction and wartime narratives. WIRED described the larger work as a dark romance set in a “Handmaid’s Tale-esque world”, while noting that its popularity extended far beyond traditional fanfiction communities
